Why it's trick: It's an innovative solution to a long-standing problem, stopping cap walk (cap chatter) is a necessity with in any application. Bessel Motorsports can make you a set of Splayed main caps for virtually any production block. Avaiable are Ford 302-351W-351C-460-SVO Blocks. Chevy 350-400-454 and Chrysler 360 blocks. Plus many aftermarket blocks. All Bessel Splayed caps are made in the USA.
What is it? The staff of Race Pages boasts a collective twenty-three years of experience in the Mustang aftermarket, so you can imagine it takes a lot for an aftermarket part to really come out of the blocks and impress us. Last season, at the Milan, Michigan race, ProMedia sales dude Danny Leonetti came over and offered up a gem "ì to go visit the pit of Turbonetics Pro Outlaw 10.5W racer Jim Brown and check out a product that he swore would blow us away. After making the trek, we had to agree with him - the Bessel Register Splayed Main Cap System threw us for a loop. For years, the aftermarket has relied on "main support" systems to strengthen stock (and aftermarket) engine blocks, as a way to stop the main caps from moving around under pressure. Ronnie Besselman has taken that idea a step further, by actually creating a system that works by machining a register into the main saddle, then producing his own high-quality steel main caps to work in tandem with the machining process.
According to Besselman, "I actually spent over $100,000 buying a CNC machine to be able to make my own caps, because I was very unhappy with the level of quality of aftermarket main caps that were on the market. From the six-hour process of machining to getting them to work correctly, it was difficult to work with because they never fit properly. Once I decided to create my own parts, I realized that I wouldn't have hardly any fitting time into the process. Then I got to thinking about it, and realized that if I spent some time designing the product, that I’d be able to cure the problem of cap chatter. Especially with stock blocks, they are taking way more abuse than they were ever designed for, and my product completely eliminates that. We haven't had a single failure." |
