"GOT REGISTER"
Have you ever had a main cap that looked like this? This is a main cap off of a NASCAR motor with Cap Chatter! "GOT REGISTER" That's the question you need to ask yourself. As any diehard racing enthusiast knows, typical racing caps are unable to withstand the increasing specification levels of high loads, and are unable to live up to advances in engine power. When stock caps are used, the motor will knock the register out of the cap (cap chatter), this causes a great amount of bearing damage and horsepower loss. The consequence is a flexing of the block, which quickly destroys the main bearings and eventually, the crankshaft. In simple terms when you start to build an increase in horsepower the crankshaft wants to kick itself out of the block. The only thing holding you crankshaft in place is the main caps and your hardware. With each conventional cap typically registers or positions via a shoulder on each side (outside) of the main cap. That is, a conventional engine block typically has a recessed channel machined to a width substantially representing the shoulder-to-shoulder distance of each main cap. The cap intimately fits within this channel and thereby is positioned or registered.
The new Bessel Register Splayed Cap (U.S. Patent # 7322750) design alleviates the common bearing fatigue and destruction of crankshafts. The Bessel caps are an improvement by not only having more cross sectional strength, but the real advantage is the ability to lock the cap into the block and eliminating the ability of the cap to move inward and causing out of roundness and cap chatter. Simply put, it is all about stability and tying in more material. This design improves reliability in highly stressed racing engines by locking in with the block. It also reduces distortion of the main bearing bores by increasing the caps resistance to closing up under high loads.
See how the cap is locked into place and can not close up under high loads.
Make your production and aftermarket blocks the strongest on the market with Bessel Racing Splayed Caps. All production blocks are blueprinted on bore location - Clearanced for stroker kit application - Bored and honed with torque plates - Square decked and many other CNC operations. Bessel Splayed Caps are avaiable for Ford 302 -351W - 351C - 460 - SVO Blocks - Chevy 350 - 400 - 454 Chrysler 360 caps coming soon. We can design and build caps for aftermarket blocks as well.
